General Assistance/Emergency Assistance
General Assistance (GA)The General Assistance program is a state mandated, locally administered welfare program designed to support township residents experiencing financial hardship. General Assistance is considered to be the program of last resort. In accordance with adopted written standards, the program may provide monthly financial assistance for basic needs. Emergency Assistance (EA)
Emergency Assistance provides financial aid to help alleviate an "emergency" or "life threatening" circumstance (i.e., eviction, utility disconnection). Emergency assistance is not provided for security deposits, first month's rent, hotels, or medical bills. Assistance is available for qualifying residents of Schaumburg Township. Emergency Assistance can be issued once in any twenty-four (24) month period. Program guidelines are established by the Welfare Services Department.
