Senior Services - TRIP - Township Riders
Initiative Program
A transportation program in Northwest Suburban Cook County is now
available to residents of five area townships, Elk Grove, Hanover, Palatine, Schaumburg, and Wheeling. This intertownship transportation for medical purposes program was created to serve the needs of area senior citizens and persons with disabilities. It is called TRIP, or Township Riders Initiative Program.

Overview Information
Hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. One-way rides cost $5.00 per township line crossed
with a maximum charge of $10.00 per each one-way ride. The three destination
criteria that must be met to qualify for ridership are as follows:
1. Your trip must be for Medical Purposes only,
2. You must travel within T.R.I.P. borders or traveling to additional designated
sites
3. You must not duplicate existing services.
Riders may travel anywhere within these seven townships: Barrington, Elk
Grove, Hanover, Maine, Palatine, Schaumburg, and Wheeling. Other destinations
covered are Stroger Cook County Hospital, Hines Veterans Hospital, Loyola
Medical Center, and the Veterans Health Administration-Elgin Clinic.
The five townships whose residents are able to use TRIP are: Elk Grove, Hanover, Palatine, Schaumburg and Wheeling. Participants must be Age 60 or over, or Age 18 and over and have a permanent disability. Note: One service animal, caregiver or attendant may
accompany the rider.

Service area: The geographic area the buses travel includes
parts of Barrington, Elk Grove, Hanover, Maine, Palatine, Schaumburg and Wheeling
Townships, as well as the medical campuses of Stroger Cook County Hospital,
Hines Veterans Hospital, Loyola Medical Center in Maywood, and the VA Hospital
in Elgin. Please call 847-882-1929 if you have any questions.
Cost: $5.00 each way, for every township border crossed, to a maximum of
$10.00 per one-way trip.
Registration: All Riders Must be pre-registered by completing a TRIP
Registration Form, and a Consent to Release Information Form (separate from the
Township Transportation Registration Form). Forms and assistance with their
completion are available at the Schaumburg Township Transportation Department,
One Illinois Blvd., Hoffman Estates, IL 60169-3314, weekdays from 10:00 a.m. to
3:00 p.m.
Be sure to bring: Documentation of age or disability, Driver’s
License or State I.D., proof of residency, and a name and phone number of an emergency contact, who would be available at the given emergency
phone number.
Qualifications: Residents must be at least 60 years of age for a “Senior”
citizen registration and at least 18 years of with a permanent disability,
certified by a physician “Disabled”
registration.
Hours of Service: Monday through Friday, from 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Reservations: Reservations should be made by calling 847-882-1929
three to fourteen working days in advance, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Please
let us know at that time if you will be needing the lift.
