Appointments are necessary for all services except Notary Public Services. Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is a federally-funded program that helps low-income eligible households’ with heating and cooling bills. Extra Help/Low Income Subsidy (LIS)Extra Help/Low Income Subsidy (LIS) is a federal prescription assistance program that helps seniors pay for some or most of the costs of Medicare drug coverage. Senior Health Insurance Program is a free statewide insurance counseling service for Medicare beneficiaries and their caregivers. Benefits CounselingBenefits Counseling is an information and referral service provided by the Senior Services Department for Social Security, Pharmaceutical, Medicare and Medicaid assistance. Living Wills, Simple Wills and Power of AttorneysLiving Wills, Simple Wills and Powers of Attorney are provided at a low cost in cooperation with the Chicago Bar Association for low-income seniors (60 years of age or over) residents of Schaumburg Township. Senior Weekly SocialSenior Weekly Social is hosted by Schaumburg Township every Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. - lunch is provided for free by Schaumburg Township. Reservations must be made at least 48 hours in advance. Temporary Disabled Parking PlacardsTemporary Disabled Parking Placards are issued by the Disability Services Department. A temporary placard is good for 3 months to disabled Schaumburg Township residents. You must provide an application signed by a doctor. If a 6 month or permanent placard is needed, an application signed by a doctor will need to be submitted to the Secretary of State, Persons with Disabilities License Plates/Placard Unit, 501 S. Second St., Rm. 541, Springfield, IL 62756. Permanent placards or plates will take about 2 weeks to receive. ***The passage of House Bill (PA 97-0845), creates a new two-tiered parking program for persons with disabilities, allowing for only persons with certain types of disabilities, to qualify for meter-exempt parking in cities and municipalities. In addition to the current blue (permanent) and red (temporary) disabled parking placards currently used in Illinois, a third placard, distinctive from the blue and red placards, will be introduced for those persons qualifying for meter-exempt parking. * Beginning in April 2013, the Secretary of State will start the recertification process for all current applicants by mailing information to them along with a new certification form. The recertification form will have a new section for the physician to execute, indicating whether the applicant has a disability that would qualify them for meter exempt parking. Disabilities Certification for Plates or Parking Placard Application AARP Tax PreparationAARP Tax Preparation assistance is available on all simple tax returns by appointment during the tax season (February - April) to senior residents of Schaumburg Township only. Notary Public ServiceNotary Public Service is offered free of charge. Picture identification required for all notarizations. The Township of Schaumburg will not notarize any documents involving a document of conveyance transferring or purporting to transfer title to residential real property located in Cook County (5 ILCS 312/3-102). All Notary Publics reserve the right to refuse service to any individual(s) who cannot show proper identification or the item presented to notarize is unfamiliar. |
