We are located east of Salem Drive and west of Roselle Road next to the Schaumburg Post Office. You can find the Town Hall building on the northeast corner of Schaumburg Road and Illinois Boulevard.
The Town Hall building was originally located at “The Buttery” on Roselle Road in Schaumburg and subsequently moved to the old “Blackhawk School” in Hoffman Estates back in 1977. After many years, the old school was torn down and a new building was constructed on the same site. The Town Hall is now located in the center of the township area which is made up of seven villages; Elk Grove, Hanover Park, Hoffman Estates, Rolling Meadows, Roselle, Schaumburg and Streamwood.
The first township governments began in 1850 and is the earliest form of government. Today, 85 of Illinois 102 counties operate under the township form of government and 1,431 serve more than 8 million citizens. Townships are considered a local unit of government but are uniquely different from other local units of government such as villages which are considered municipalities. Townships focus primarily on the human service needs of the community as well as the roads in the unincorporated areas of the township. Schaumburg Township provides a vast array of services to the senior, disabled, transportation, low-income, and youth populations residing within the township boundaries. Additional services are also provided through the Assessor’s Office and Clerk’s Office to all township residents. Villages offer very different services related to public works such as police and fire departments, permits and registrations, etc.
No. We encompass approximately 32 square miles of land located within seven villages. Those villages include Elk Grove, Hanover Park, Hoffman Estates, Rolling Meadows, Roselle, Schaumburg, Streamwood and unincorporated areas of Cook County. Our population (2010 Census) exceeds 144,000 residents. Our services are available to all of the residents within the township boundaries.
Law states that an unincorporated area is a region of land that is not part of a municipality (village). This means that homeowners within the unincorporated areas of Schaumburg do not have available to them some of the services provided by their village such as water, sewer and emergency response (e.g. fire and police). Those services are provided by the county or the Fire Protection District. Cook County governs the use of the land in unincorporated Schaumburg therefore resident complaints, concerns and questions regarding land, neighbor disputes and services should be directed to Cook County at (312)603-0500. The Schaumburg Township Road & Bridge Department is responsible for the roads in the unincorporated areas of the township, therefore all building construction, refuse services, questions, concerns, and/or complaints regarding the roads should be directed to the Highway Department.
Because the unincorporated and incorporated boundaries of Schaumburg Township do not run in a straight line, it would be difficult for any new resident to tell whether or not they live in the unincorporated or incorporated area of the township. If your neighbor is in unincorporated it does not necessarily mean you are as well. This question should always be directed to the Assessor’s office here at the township by calling (847) 884-0030.
New residents living in the unincorporated area are required to follow the county (Cook County) and Schaumburg Township ordinances. An example of an ordinance includes Cook County Vehicle Stickers. All vehicles registered to an address within the unincorporated area of Schaumburg Township are required to display Cook County Vehicle Stickers all year around (new stickers need to be displayed by July 1st of each year to avoid late fee and/or fine). Another example of an ordinance includes Schaumburg Township Road Permits. All vehicles doing construction while using the unincorporated roads of Schaumburg Township must apply for a road permit or possibly be held liable for damages and/or fines related to road use without a permit.
Due to the Schaumburg Township Road & Bridge Ordinance 2013/2014 #02 relating to use of the unincorporated roads, you may not choose a company for refuse pickup. Schaumburg Township has a contract with ARC Disposal until May 2016, and at that time a new vendor will be chosen via the bid process by Schaumburg Township and a notice will be mailed to inform residents of the new service provider. Besides offering residents referrals to human service agencies or other non-profit or governmental agencies, Schaumburg Township cannot refer you to a local private business and/or individual. We recommend always researching a business and/or individual prior to using them. The Schaumburg Township General Assistance Department works hard to serve those residents who have fallen on hard times. General Assistance, Emergency Assistance, and Food Pantry are available to those residents in need. Please call the General Assistance Department at (847)884-0030 ext. 2013 if you or your family is in need of this type of assistance. Appointments are required for all visits.
The Schaumburg Township Transportation Department as well the Senior and Disability Services Department can assist you with your transportation needs if you are 65 years of age or older or at least 18 years of age with proof of a permanent disability. Please call (847)884-0030 to be connected to a department that can assist you further with your transportation needs.
It is often assumed that our departments such as senior and disabled services can assist with everything affecting a person’s life. Although many services are provided, sometimes we will refer you to a more suitable agency for the assistance you are seeking. Each individual seen will have their needs assessed and will be provided with the services available to each department. Unfortunately some of the services sought cannot be provided by our departments. It is always recommended to call (847)884-0030 prior to walking-in, although walk-ins are seen on a first come, first served basis.
Schaumburg Township has partnered with the Kenneth Young Center to provide a variety of services to youth ages 10 to 25, and their families. Services include individual and family counseling with certified counselors. Please call Kenneth Young Center at (847)884-6212 for more information.
The Assessor’s office can assist with appealing your assessed valuation as well as offer assistance with homeowner’s exemptions and senior freezes.
Many residents are surprised to know that we are an acceptance facility for U.S. Passport Applications. Our hours for this service are 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM, Monday thru Friday. You’ll need to bring a few items with you in order for your application to be processed. You will need 2 – 2x2 passport photos, a certified original birth certificate or original naturalization certificate, valid driver’s license or state ID and checks/money orders.
