ROBERT A. FECAROTTA/HIGHWAY COMMISSIONER
HIGHWAY COMMISSIONER'S OFFICE (847) 884-0030 EXT. 3090
HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT GARAGE (847) 884-1727

The mission of the Highway Department of the Township of Schaumburg is to service and maintain the unincorporated roads, bridges, and road right of ways for the residents in unincorporated Schaumburg Township in a prompt, courteous, and fiscally responsible manner.

The Highway Department of Schaumburg Township is dedicated to meeting the needs of the residents we serve. Our staff of professionals are well acquainted with the community we serve. Work has been done to improve communication with the Villages of Roselle and Schaumburg. Quarterly meetings are scheduled with the two villages to exchange ideas and work on mutual concerns and projects that benefit the residents of the Township. The Highway Department is always looking for ways to better serve the community and your suggestions are welcomed.

A FEW WORDS FROM THE HIGHWAY COMMISSIONER:

Upon being elected, I took an oath. I feel fortunate to be in this position. It is important to me to make a difference. Our Snow Removal from Driveway Apron Program for seniors, veterans and the disabled in the unincorporated areas has received praise from numerous residents. This past winter season I initiated the Clear Vision Program for all township residents. The letters and e-mails from the participants are proof that the department is making a difference. We have created the 50/50 Parkway Tree Program this past year. I am hoping this new program will be a success. My staff is ready to serve 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year to ensure that these programs run smoothly along with the other functions of the department. As Highway Commissioner, I felt it was important to lobby for Grant Money. We have been fortunate to receive an Illinois First Grant. I pledge to continue to look for ways to find funds for the department without raising taxes. My door is always open, so please stop by or call for an appointment. I am hear to serve you. I can be reached on my cell phone at (847) 651-3090.

HERE ARE SOME HIGHLIGHTS OF WHAT IS AHEAD IN 2006 FOR THE TOWNSHIP OF SCHAUMBURG HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT:

  • Continued Brush Pick-up Program. Roadside branch pick-up service is performed twice a month, along with special pick-ups due to wind/storm damage. Wood chips are also available on a first call, first served basis.
  • Snow Removal from Driveway Apron Program. Please fill out a new application each year, to continue to be part of this service.
  • 50/50 Parkway Tree Program. This program shares the cost of a parkway tree. Available to residents in unincorporated Schaumburg Township only.
  • Continuing to look for Grant Money. Currently applying for Federal and State of Illinois Grants.
  • Continued right-of-way maintenance. Unimproved properties are our priority. We ask that you help maintain your own parkway.
  • Continued road re-surfacing. The entire road network is being re-evaluated every year and a new road re-surfacing project will go out to competitive bid in 2005.
  • Enforcement of permits for any work done in right-of-ways. Please apply for a permit for any proposed work that you may attempt to perform in the right-of-way, extending 33 feet from centerline of roadway. Highway Department staff is available to help you with this simple application.
  • Continued roadway sign maintenance of unincorporated areas.
  • Yearly painting of white stripes at stop sign locations. For the safety of our residents, friends and families who are not familiar with the neighborhoods, the reflective paint and the bright inserts make the stop signs more visible.
  • Continued participation in the S.W.A.P. Program. The department will continue to use this free labor force provided by the Sheriff’s Work Alternative Program.
  • Federal Government Mandate. Highway Departments are required to implement a program that would limit the pollutants discharged into our storm sewer systems and water run-off systems. Look for this important information so you can do your part to prevent the polluting of the streams and waterways in Illinois. As part of this mandate we are looking into providing a used oil-recycling center. The initial stages are in the works to create a re-cycling center at our garage for used motor oil, tires and paint.
