Deaf or hard of hearing may call TTY (847) 884-1560 or VP (224) 520-9763. Appointments are necessary for all services provided except Notary Public Service. Illinois Telecommunications Access Corporation (ITAC)Schaumburg Township Disability Services is a selection center for ITAC (Illinois Telecommunications Access Corporation) free amplified phone program. The amplified phone program provides a free phone to qualified Illinois residents with a certified hearing loss. Qualified residents may come to the Disability Services Department to do a 'live' test call on each of the five phones and select the phone with the optimal hearing results for them. Each phone has varying levels of amplification and adjustments for tone and clarity. The amplified phones range from 45 to 55 decibels. There are no age or income requirements. Residents need standard telephone service, a picture ID and a doctor or licensed audiologist's signature on the application. ITAC coordinates the distribution of TTYs, Amplified and CapTel phones. Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is a federally-funded program that helps low-income disabled persons pay home heating and cooling bills. Circuit Breaker and Illinois Cares RxCircuit Breaker and Illinois Cares Rx program provides grants to persons with disabilities. Circuit Breakers provide the following to qualified persons:
Temporary Disabled Parking PlacardsTemporary Disabled Parking Placards are issued by the Disability Services Department. A temporary placard is good for 3 months to disabled Schaumburg Township residents. You must provide an application signed by a doctor. If a 6 month or permanent placard is needed, an application signed by a doctor will need to be submitted to the Secretary of State, Persons with Disabilities License Plates/Placard Unit, 501 S. Second St., Rm. 541, Springfield, IL 62756. Permanent placards or plates will take about 2 weeks to receive. Notary Public ServiceNotary Public Service is offered free of charge. Picture identification required for all notarizations. The Township of Schaumburg will not notarize any documents involving a document of conveyance transferring or purporting to transfer title to residential real property located in Cook County (5 ILCS 312/3-102). All Notary Publics reserve the right to refuse service to any individual(s) who cannot show proper identification or the item presented to notarize is unfamiliar. |
