Board of Review Property Assessment Appeals Period to Begin January 2nd
Township of Schaumburg residents who are looking to make another appeal on their property taxes can do so starting in January. The Board of Review appeal period is from January 2, - January 31, 2018 and the Township of Schaumburg Assessor’s Office can assist locals in the appeals process and filing. Appeals should be filed with the Cook County Board of Review.
Township of Schaumburg Assessor John R. Lawson said, “Now is the time to take a close look at your property assessment to see if you can make an appeal. Our knowledgeable staff members are here to walk you through each step and answer any questions.”
Residents can appeal regardless of recent appeals with the Cook County Assessor’s Office and/or the Cook County Board of Review. Over-assessment appeals can be made for the following reasons:
- If your property’s improvement value is assessed higher, per square foot, than other properties in your neighborhood of similar size, style, and construction.
- If the stated market value for your property is higher than the property's actual market value. An appraisal report or recent sales contract is needed.
- If the property description is incorrect. A minor error does not necessarily indicate an incorrect assessment.
Any questions can be directed to the Township of Schaumburg Assessor’s Office at (847) 884-0030 between 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. on Monday – Friday. Additional information can be found at http://www.schaumburgtownship.org/departments/assessors-office/.
